2013 SMHA Squirts, Novice, Atom Awards Banquet

The inaugural SMHA Awards Banquet was a very fun and rewarding evening to celebrate all of our young hockey players' personal, and team successes over the course of this past season. 
The evening began with great food supplied by the Hazelridge executive group and their wonderful volunteers. 
As the dinner was being served, we were able to award 30 prizes, and one awesome grand prize of a CCM hockey stick to randomly drawn winners, thanks to the sponsorship and donations of the people listed at the end of this email.
As the award ceremonies began, first the squirts, then novice, and finally the atom players were called up to receive a personalized certificate to celebrate their hard work and commitment to the game of hockey.  Each age group posed for photographs of themselves with their certificates.
We then moved on to individual awards, which were chosen by parents and coaching staff to showcase some of the outstanding attitudes and dedication to learning the great sport of hockey.
Winning the 'Most Dedicated' awards were:
Ryan Blair, Mason Murta, Logan Klepatz, Ethan Eckert, Jacob Da Silva, Keira Mollard, Roan Coe, Declan Whiteman, Dylan Goldsworthy, Eric Bartel, and Jake Ford.
Winning the 'Most Sportsmanlike" awards were:
Kylie Lesuk, Carter Fleury, Quinten Lodge, Lucas Nixon, Jayden Vickery, Alexander Hampton, Kate Everett, Lexi Taylor, and Ty Skelly.
Winning the 'Most Improved' awards were:
Logan Harder, Keenan Boyce-Gaudreau, John Lepp, Jensen Beens, Ryan Hipwell, Devin Marcoux, Jenna Sellen, Cash Clarkson, and Jonathon Kochen.
The finale of the evening was the awarding of two awards to celebrate volunteerism in our community, and in the sport of hockey in Springfield.  Along with a certificate for the recipient, plaques will be placed in each of our community's hockey rinks to highlight the outstanding services of each year's winners of these awards.
The first award was the Springfield Minor Hockey Association "Don Nixon Memorial Coach Of The Year Award" sponsored by KWA Sports Services.
The recipient of this award, as chosen by ballot casting done by the SMHA members, is Grant Sellen, coach of the Eastman League Champion Novice A Team. 
Unfortunately, Grant was unable to be present for this event, so accepting the award on his behalf was his very happy daughter, Jenna Sellen. 
The second award was the Springfield Minor Hockey Association "Volunteer Of The Year Award" sponsored by Kevin Gutoski.
The recipient of this award, as chosen by ballot casting done by the SMHA members, is Don Nixon.
Accepting the award in memory of Don's passion for our game, our community, and our young players, was his wife Lisa and his sons, Josh and Lucas.
